What will you be doing in this role?
A Clinical Nurse I (CN I) is a novice with less than one year of nursing experience, or re-entering nursing after being out of nursing for five or more years, who delivers direct care to assigned patients in an ambulatory setting care. A CN I practice entails both independent decision-making skills and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to deliver expert care to the patients. This role enhances competency skills through continuing education programs. This role involves delivering care to special patient population and those with diverse cultural background.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
Provides basic assessment skills to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
Delivers safe and appropriate patient care to a specific patient population using nursing process.
Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.
Plans patient care based on assessment, validated by peers. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.
Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Makes special adjustments to patient care as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to understand instructions and provide consent.
Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient.
Provides and accurately documents in the electronic medical record direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate’s Degree/College Diploma in Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
License/Certifications:
- Valid CA RN license required.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required (Certification expiration dates must be valid 60 days from the start date)
Experience:
- No Experience required. RN graduates – 1 year within acquiring RN license required.
